Best outdoors activities in Barcelona

There is still a lot of summer ahead and we know you are full of energy and super excited to make new plans. That’s why we want to show you all the outdoor activities that Barcelona has to offer. Concerts, outdoor movies, sports, markets, parties … Don’t miss even one! You’ll have the entire winter to enjoy the latest Netflix release, now it’s time to go out and enjoy the Barcelona Outdoors.

1.Enjoy an outdoor movie

Whether you are a movie buff or not, it’s always cool to watch an outdoors movie. Bring some snacks and enjoy the summer outdoor movie screenings in Barcelona. You have different options: Mecal Air will take place at Poble Espanyol where the short films of the previous edition of Mecal Pro, the International Short Film and Animation Festival of Barcelona will be screened. You have time until September 8th! The CCCB organizes an outdoors films cycle under the theme “Rebels and Dangerous”. The screenings will be at Pati de les Dones in Barcelona, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until August 24.

2. Check out the markets

Take a look at the Barcelona markets! Every second Sunday of the month you can go to Flea Market (Plaça Blanquerna), the largest second-hand market in Barcelona, specialized on recycled and vintage objects. You’ll find clothes, accessories, books and music at very reasonable prices. Another option is the Fleadonia (Plaça Salvador Seguí), the best street market located in Raval neighborhood, where you can also find interesting second-hand ‘treasures’. And if you are looking for a fanciest market, come to Palo Alto Market, clothing and design objects, live music and food trucks are waiting for you every first weekend of the month in Carrer dels Pellaires, 30 Barcelona.

3. Cool off at the outdoor pools

If you are one of those who can’t stand the beach sand but you still need to take a swim and you don’t have a mansion with pool in La Costa Brava, the outdoor Barcelona pools are a good alternative. Our favorites: Can Dragó, Torre de les Aigües, Parc de la Creueta del Coll, Club Natació Montjuïc, Can Caralleu, Club Natació Atlètic-Barceloneta, CEM Parc de la Ciutadella, Forum Bath Zone.

4.Live a SUP sunset


Either alone or with company, watching the sunset from your SUP board is priceless. Nowadays, stand up paddle is becoming more and more popular and we know why. This sport allows you to work on your balance skills, to get fit while you relax and enjoy the wonderful city views from the sea. You can also join night SUP groups, it’s becoming also very popular, especially during the full moon nights. If you go to Barceloneta area, you’ll find several Surf Shops where you can rent the gear and also take SUP lessons.

5. Discover Casa Batlló at night

Every day from June 1st to October 1st, at 8:00 pm you will have the opportunity to visit Casa Batlló at night while you enjoy live music. The tour to this emblematic Antoni Gaudí building includes 2 drinks, 1 hour visit with smartguide and also live music on the Roof of the Drac.

6. Have a cocktail in the coolest patios in the city

From time to time it’s nice to have some luxury time… Have a cocktail while you watch the spectacular city views from a good hotel terrace. We give you some ideas, it will not be easy for you to decide which one you like better … Sky Bar of the Grand Hotel Central, Hotel Ohla Barcelona, ​​Hotel Cubik, Hotel Arts, Pullman Barcelona Skipper, Mandarin Oriental, Barceló Raval Hotel.

7. Practice climbing in Montjuïc

If you like climbing and you have the necessary gear to practice this sport, we recommend you to visit La Foixarda (road of the Foixarda, s / n), the largest public climbing wall in Europe located in Montjuïc. If you prefer, you can also go at night time as it’s perfectly illuminated. There are different difficulty levels so be careful and don’t try to be Spiderman if you are not an expert.

8. Explore the Via Ferrata Cala del Molí


One of the outdoor activities near Barcelona that you will enjoy the most is the via ferrata Cala del Molí (Sant Feliu de Guíxols) in La Costa Brava, it runs by the sea and includes 5 bridges, 3 Tibetans, 1 Nepalese and 1 trunk . You will need a helmet, heatsink and good footwear and we recommend you to do it on weekdays. The hour and a half of hiking can turn into a 3 hours hike during the weekend. Don’t do it without the knowledge and all the necessary gear!

9. Practice outdoor sports


Be active! Practice Beach Volley in Nova Icària, there are public volleyball nets on all beaches and you can even find free lessons. If you like basketball, you will find the most popular courts in Carrer de la Marina, Parc de la Barceloneta, Parc del Poblenou or Parc del Clot. Barcelona is the perfect city for rollerblading lovers, check the outings and lessons offered by the Associació de Patinadors de Barcelona. If you like practicing skateboard or longboard,  even if is prohibited in some areas of the city, there are areas enabled by the City Hall (Barceloneta and Mar Bella beaches, Poblenou park and Jardins Menendez i Pelayo de Gràcia).

10. Yoga with sea view


If you are one of the few people who still refuses to do yoga maybe the idea of ​​practicing on a rooftop overlooking the sea convinces you. Come to Boardriders Barceloneta and book your class. The lessons are held every Friday at 10am and on Sundays at 11am on this Surf Shop patio located in Barceloneta.

11. Don’t miss Les feasts de Gràcia

If you are in Barcelona from the 15th to the 21st of August you can’t miss the “Festa Major de Gracia” popularly known as Les Festes de Gràcia. The program has a lot of activities, such as concerts, beer tastings, competitions, workshops, sports activities, parades, castellers, theater, exhibitions, a popular yincana and also outdoor movies. But the most representative activity is undoubtedly the streets and balconies decorations competition with recycled materials organized by the Gràcia neighbors who work very hard to have everything ready for the competition. You can’t miss it!

12. Music and color at the Magic Fountains of Montjuïc

During the summer nights you can enjoy spectacular choreographies of light, color, water and music in the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. If you are looking for a moment of peace and reflection in front of the fountains this is not your spot, nowadays this work of Carlos Buigas receives about 2.5 million visitors annually. 13. Brunch in the Park: Electronic Open-Air Music

You have time until mid-September to dance like there’s no tomorrow with the outdoor electronic music that every Sunday sounds at Brunch in the Park. In the same mountain of Montjuïc you will find what is undoubtedly one of the best outdoor electronic music festivals in Europe.

14. End up an epic summer with the mythical Mercè festivities

Are you going to miss the biggest party in Barcelona? Known as La Mercè (Patroness of Barcelona) is a party whose programming focuses on Mediterranean and Catalan popular culture: street art, parades, concerts, traditional dances … From the 22 to the 25 September you will have time to enjoy an endless number of activities that will take place in different parts of the city. You can check the concerts and activities program in La Mercè. And don’t miss the end of this big party with the pyromusical show at Les Fonts de Montjuïc.
